Today was a little different than most days, but we had a wonderful day. Today, along with our regular lessons, we formed new friendships and continued with old friendships. In my opinion, in order to teach a child, I must first gain the child's respect. I do this by showing the students that I care about them. I don't have to continually stop my lessons to make the children listen because they want to listen. Not only do the children need to have respect for me, they also need to have respect for the other students, hence why we worked on friendships today. Today we told the class about ourselves. We included things that are important to us and what interests we have. We then worked in groups of twos, threes, and even fours the rest of the day. We also swapped up partners so that the classroom doesn't become cliquey. The students were allowed to talk quietly and have a good time with each other while also learning. The students discussed freely how they felt about the lessons we studied and the best way they learn. I joined in on all the groups so that I also can form friendships with my students and receive feedback from them. We will not always work in groups, but from time to time, we will do this again.
